Tazret® Gel is manufactured by Glenmark. It is a topical medication for mild to moderate plaque psoriasis in case less than 10% of the skin is affected. This gel has potent anti-inflammatory and keratolytic properties, hence it reduces skin inflammation and makes psoriasis lesions thinner and less visible. The active substance comprised in Tazret® Gel is Tazoratene, a 3rd generation topical retinoid prodrug of the acetylenic class. Tazarotene is derivative of Vitamin A.

Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of psoriasis disease. This is a chronic skin condition characterized by red, swelling, flaky, and crusty skin patches with silvery scales. These patches can be painful and itchy. Psoriasis is caused by a hyperproliferation of skin cells. New skin cells reach the skin surface earlier than the old cells generation is peeled off. New cells build up on the surface of the skin mixing with an old cells residue and form the psoriasis patch. Such skin cells overproduction can be caused by problems with immune systems or genetic predisposition.

Tazarotene gel in higher dosage (0,1%) is used to treat acne vulgaris and photoaging (fine wrinkles).

MOA (mechanism of action):

Following topical application, Tazarotene undergoes esterase hydrolysis to the active form, Tazarotenic Acid. Once bound to the all three retinoic acid receptors (RAR family), Tazarotenic Acid modifies the genes regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and inflammation. Namely, Tazarotene blocks the activity of a special enzyme called ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), associated with cell proliferation and expression. Tazarotene is also known to suppress inflammation marker in epidermis of psoriasis patients, to induce the activity of a suppressor gene TIG3, that may inhibit epidermal hyperproliferation in treated plaques.

Tazret® Gel is for external use only. Do not apply to your eyes, mouth, inside of the nose, private parts, and any other mucosal surface.

Tazret® Gel should be applied to the 10% of the body at most (this is approximately equivalent to the area of skin on one arm).
