Levolin® Plus Syrup is manufactured by Cipla. This is a ready-to-use liquid formulation that acts as a musclerelaxant, expectorant and mucolytic agent. The active substances comprised in Levolin® Plus Syrup are Levosalbutamol, Ambroxol, and Guaiphenesin.

Levolin® Plus Syrup is indicated to relieve a productive cough caused by following conditions:

- asthma;

- bronchitis;

- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD);

- bronchiectasis.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Levosalbutamol is an adrenergic bronchodilator and short-acting β2 adrenergic receptor agonist. In particular, it indirectly increases the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (AMP) and decreases intracellular ionic calcium concentrations, leading to muscle relaxation. Relaxing smooth muscles in the bronchial tubes, Levosalbutamol prevents an attack of difficulty breathing.

Ambroxol is a mucoactive agent possessing secretomotoric and secretolytic characteristics. It inhibits the Nitric oxide-depending activation of soluble guanylate cyclase associated with inflammation and other disturbances of airways function. Therefore, Ambroxol renews the purifying activity in the respiratory tract which plays an important role in the body’s natural protection from infections. It also reduces the adhesion of mucus to the bronchial walls saving them from irritating agents.

Guaiphenesin is an expectorant which increases the passing of sputum (a mixture of saliva and mucus) by the air passages reducing its adhesiveness and surface tension. It makes a cough more productive, but less recurrent. Then, Guaiphenesin removes the accumulated secretions from the upper and lower airway. It also thought to have certain muscle relaxing properties.
