MOA (mechanism of action):
Azithromycin suppresses bacterial protein synthesis, thus it does not allow bacteria to grow and replicate. In such a way, Azithromycin stops the spread of infection and remaining bacteria eventually die. Azithromycin is active against gram-positive bacteria (Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Penicillin-susceptible Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A); gram-negative bacteria (Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Pasteurella multocida; other bacteria (Chlamydophila pneumoniae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila, Mycobacterium avium, Mycobacterium intracellulare).
