About A-Ret® Gel

Rating of sales:

A-Ret® Gel is manufactured by Menarini. This is a topical treatment for moderate to severe acne. A-Ret® Gel has potent anti-inflammatory and exfoliating properties, thus it reduces the number and severity of acne lesions. It also unclogs the pores preventing new breakouts. The active ingredient of this medication is Tretinoin, also known as all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA). This is a naturally occurring derivative of vitamin A (retinol) of retinoid class.

Acne (also called acne vulgaris) is an inflammatory skin disorder characterized by clogged pores, inflamed pimples, whiteheads, cysts, non-inflamed comedones, and possible scarring of the healed outbreaks. It is caused by a rapid growth of P. acnes (Propionibacterium acnes) bacteria. When skin is oily and there is an excess of dead skin cells on the skin surface, pores get clogged forming the positive environment for P. acnes proliferation. The immune response to P. acnes bacteria overgrowth causes inflammation and acne progression. Genetic predisposition and increase in androgen hormones are among the most common reasons of acne.

A-Ret® Gel in higher dosage (0.1%) is used to treat photoaging, fine wrinkles, and facial skin roughness. It is also can be used off-label to treat melasma, actinic keratosis, ichthyosis, keloids, and keratosis follicularis.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Tretinoin acts as a comedolytic and anti-inflammatory agent and works by unclogging blocked pores. In particular, it modifies the abnormal follicular keratinization and promotes the turnover rate of dead epithelial cells (constituents of the outermost skin layer). With the exfoliation of keratinized skin cells, the content of blocked pores releases and the overgrowth of P. acnes starts reducing. Tretinoin also makes epithelial cells divide faster causing the comedones to be pushed out of the blocked pores more rapidly.
