About Doxint®

ADoxint® manufacturer is NeuTec.

The active ingredient of Doxint® is Doxycycline, a semisynthetic tetracyclin antibiotic. Doxycycline has antiprotozoal, antibacterial and antihelminthic effects.


- chest, lung or nasal infections (e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis);

- infections of the kidneys and bladder (e.g., cystitis, urethritis);

- infections of the skin;

- eye infections;

- sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Chlamydia);

- fevers associated with louse or tick bites;

- malaria, when chloroquine is not effective;

- rickettsial infections such as Q fever or tick fever.

Doxint® may also prevent traveler's diarrhea, scrub typhus and leptospirosis.

Doxint® is not used to treat infection due to viruses like cold and flu or yeast infections.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Doxycycline is bacteriostatic drug. It works by slowing or stopping the bacteria growth. Doxycycline inhibits the synthesis of essential proteins, which are required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Doxycycline is effective against sensitive strains of staphylococci, bacteroides spp., propionibacterium, peptococcus, asexual erythrocytic forms of plasmodium falciparum, mycoplasma pneumonia, chlymadia pneumonia, c.trachomatis etc.


Swallow the Doxint® capsules whole with a full glass of water/with food/milk.

If you take birth-control pills, use additional contraceptives while taking Doxint® and 7 days after stopping Doxint®.

Adults, elderly and children of 12 years or older:

The recommended dose is 200 mg on the first day as a single or two 100 mg doses, followed by 100 mg per day.

For severe infections, the daily dose may be increased to 200 mg.

The treatment duration is minimum 10 days.

Doxint® for treating certain infections:

Acne vulgaris – 50 mg a day for 6-12 weeks.

Sexually transmitted disease – 100 mg twice per day for 7-10 days.

Syphilis – 300 mg a day in divided doses for 10 days.

Fevers caused by lice or ticks – a single dose of 100-200 mg for 7-10 days.

Malaria – 200 mg a day during 7 days, should be given with other drugs such as quinine.

Doxint® for preventing:

Infection with scrub typhus – 200 mg as a single dose.

Traveler's diarrhea – 200 mg on the first day of travel followed by 100 mg a day throughout the duration of the stay. Do not use for more than 3 weeks unless advised by your doctor.

Leptospirosis infections – 200 mg once a week throughout the stay in the infected area and 200 mg at the end of the trip. Do not use for more than 3 weeks unless directed by your doctor.

Missing a dose

If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Doxint® to compensate the missed dose.


If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.


Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.

Side effects

The most common side effects associated with Doxint® are:

  • allergic reactions
  • oesophagitis
  • burning sensation in the stomach
  • feeling or being sick
  • diarrhea
  • lack of appetite
  • sensitivity in sunlight

Side effects occurrence does not only depend on the medication you are taking, but also on your overall health and other factors.


Do not take Doxint® if you are allergic to Doxycycline, other similar antibiotics (such as Minocycline or Tetracycline.

Do not take Doxint® if you are allergic to any other ingredients comprised in Doxint®.

Do not take Doxint® if you have a history of severe allergic reactions associated with using antibiotics.

Do not take Doxint® if you have liver disease or are taking medications affecting your liver.

Do not take Doxint® if you have porphyria (a genetic disorder of the blood).

Do not take Doxint® if you suffer from myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness, difficulty chewing and swallowing and slurred speech).

Do not take Doxint® if you have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (face rash, hair loss, fever, malaise and joint pain).

Do not take Doxint® if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medications: anticoagulants (warfarin); penicillin or rifampicin; antacids containing aluminium, calcium or magnesium or other medications containing iron, bismuth or zinc salts; phenobarbital, carbamazepine, phenytoin or primidone (to treat epilepsy); methoxyflurane (an anaesthetic); ciclosporin (used following organ transplants).

Apply sunblock if you are going sunbathe while taking Doxint®, as it makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Doxint® is effective for using in adults, elderly and must not be used in children under 12 years of age.

Consult your doctor before taking Doxint® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
